General: We believe our website should primarily focus on presenting our company, its products
and its services in a clear and logical manner, instead of merely serving as an electronic canvas for our Webmaster to demonstrate his creative skills. To that end, we used the following criteria:
Page loading time: Our target is a maximum of 8 seconds per page over a 56k modem, so most images have been reduced in size, depth and saturation to assist us in achieving this target. We do not use background images, and we use image links sparingly, as we prefer faster-loading text links. Navigation: Must be logical, intuitive and consistent, and we believe using frames is the best way for us to achieve our objective. All key product categories are listed in the left-hand navigation frame and all primary pages (such as this page), share a common header and footer. Browser compatibility: Our website is designed to be browser neutral, so every page fully complies with the W3C XHTML 1.0 and CSS interoperability standards, and all primary pages include a link at the bottom for validation purposes. Readability: Each page must have clear contrast and ample white space. All primary pages have been checked with Vischeck, and we believe they will be clearly viewable by visitors who suffer from the three principal forms of colour blindness (Deuteranope, Pritanope and Tritanope). Our website is also primarily presented in black & white, and other colours are merely used for decorative highlighting, not to convey information. Updates: Our website is usually updated within 8 hours (but never more than 24 hours), after being advised (or otherwise becoming aware), of a change of information being necessary. In practice, this invariably means that our website is updated at least twice a week, every week, because we believe a website which is out of date has little or no value. Links: External links are set to open in a new browser window, for the benefit of less experienced web users, but also because we believe capturing external websites within the confines of our frames is an unacceptable practice. Links are checked by us every week and, while we regret any broken links, we obviously cannot guarantee that external links, over which we have no control, will always be available or that they will work flawlessly. By the same token, we cannot accept any responsibility for the privacy practices, security or content of those websites. Gimmicks: Content will always take precedence over gimmicks (e.g. “Flash”), which gets old very quickly (usually by your third visit when most people select the “skip” option). There's also no need to download, install and/or update special software just to view our website, but you will need the free, defacto web standard Adobe® Reader® to open PDF product information files, should you choose to download them from us. Accessibility: In the absence of a definitive online validation service or a “screen reader”, we make no claims that our website is fully accessible by all users with disabilities, but we strive to observe (and, if possible, exceed) minimum WAI standards. However if you have suggestions on other ways we could further improve our website to make it more accessible to visitors with disabilities, please email the Webmaster or submit your comments in our feedback form. Screen size: Despite the increasing popularity of larger computer screens with higher resolutions, our website is viewable as intended on computers with a 1,024 x 768 pixel or higher resolution which, according to recent statistics, are used by over 60% of computer users worldwide, and by the vast majority of our primary audience. However visitors with 800 x 600 pixel displays (which account for a further 34% of computer users worldwide), will have a workable albeit less attractive experience. Scrolling: No page should ever require horizontal scrolling nor more than a maximum of four mouse clicks or keyboard “page downs” to scroll vertically from top to bottom. Irritants: Background sounds, animated images and scrolling text are generally considered irritating by frequent web users, and such items will rarely be forced upon our visitors (except for the gently waving flags on the foreign language translations of our “About Us” page, which we think are rather attractive). Language: We use English spelling throughout our website, and we go to great pains to ensure there are no spelling errors. In the unlikely event you find a spelling error, please email the Webmaster or submit your comments in our feedback form. Foreign languages: Minor portions of this website display Chinese and other non-English language characters, which might appear as “????” (or other symbols) in your browser. However we code our HTML exclusively with ISO-10646 numeric character references (e.g. &#nnnnn;), so Chinese and other non-English language characters should display properly for most visitors. In any case, the inability to view such characters will not reduce the amount of company or product information available to you in English. Cookies: Our website does not require visitors to accept cookies, because we believe the best way for you to “enjoy your visit” is for us to make the information you seek easily accessible and presented in a logical and intuitive way, without the need to store snippets of code on your computer hard drive. Pop-Up Windows: Never open automatically. Moreover, all of our user-selectable pop-up windows incorporate a standard HTML link which open seamlessly for visitors who elect to block JavaScript, which is used extensively throughout this website and by over 88% of frequent web users worldwide. Error messages: Our website uses custom error messages written in plain, non-technical English, so that visitors can clearly understand them on those rare occasions when they are invoked. Content label: Although this website is primarily intended for adult law enforcement professionals, we believe no material herein will be rated by parents as “unsuitable for children”, and the main page of our website includes an ICRA “pics-label” meta-tag to that effect, which is now supported locally in Hong Kong by the TELA and the HKISPA. Questions: If you have questions or comments in respect of our philosophy (or any other aspect of our website), please email the Webmaster or submit your comments in our feedback form. |
